Le Marche; Urbino
More inland lays the ancient settlement of Urbino. It is from this city that the Duke Federico Da Montefeltro ruled his duchy between 1444 and 1482. This duke certainly left his mark on the region. The greater part of the province is still referred to as “Pesaro/Urbino Montefeltro”.
The city itself is certainly worth the visit. In actual fact the whole city is one great monumental attraction. A noteworthy detail is that Urbino housse within its walls one of the oldest university in Italy. This adds a very distinct atmosphere to the city. Streets are filled with enthusiastic youngsters, but at the same time reveal its more traditional scenes of little old men conversing with each other in the shade or on a street corner.
Urbino is definitely recommendation!
