Le Marche; Ancona
Further to the south lays the capital of Le Marche, Ancona. This city won’t win any beauty contests but is definitely worth the visit. Ancona is famous for its large harbours from which numerous ferries depart for Greece and Croatia. Few historical sites of interest have remained intact since the Second World War. The 15th Century Loggia dei Mercati however is a site well worth the visit. Just like the Arco di Traiano on the harbour as well as the Renaissance paintings by Lorenze Lotto in the Pinacoteca Comunale F Podesti e Galleria d’Arte Moderna. To the north of Ancona, but in particular to the south, inviting beaches are found.
